Firefighters in Birmingham, Ala., were digging through the debris of an apartment building on Tuesday, looking for two people who were reported missing several hours after an explosion rocked the facility.
The blast sent eight to hospital with injuries, including four children, The Associated Press reported. The identities of the two missing were not released.
The explosion rocked the Gate City Apartments complex around 3 a.m.
Birmingham Fire Chief C.W. Mardis said to WBRC-TV that survivors were forced to crawl through fire and debris to get to the street and to safety. It took firefighters fully two hours to extinguish the flames, AP reported.
None of the injuries are life threatening, but the cause of the explosion is under investigation, the AP reported.
