Trayvon Martin’s mother and father are reportedly shopping a book about their 17-year-old son whose death by gunfire sparked a national discussion about stand-your-ground defense laws and racism.
The New York Times reported that two different publishing insiders said Trayvon’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, met with key executives in recent days to discuss a possible deal about the shooting and the loss of their son.
George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon in 2012, alleging self-defense. He was acquitted of second-degree murder charges — to the shock and outrage of black civil rights activists like Al Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who saw the shooting as an act of racism.
In the hours after the shooting, the parents initially said they did not think Mr. Zimmerman was guilty of murder. After the days and weeks went by, however, and protests outside the Florida courtroom grew in volume, the parents went on national television and spoke harshly against the state law that gives permitted gun holders the right to kill in instances of self-defense.
The Times said a book about Trayvon “has the potential to attract major media attention, especially on cable television, which exhaustively covered the fatal shooting and subsequent trial,” The Blaze reported.
