“Saturday Night Live” has finally jumped in the mock-Obama game — a turnaround from years of silence about the president’s political gaffes — and kicked off skits poking fun at the leader’s behavior during Nelson Mandela’s memorial and his reaction to a fake sign-language interpreter.
The skit opened with Jay Pharoah, the actor portraying the president, speaking of the “series of unfortunate events” that marked the Mandela memorial service, The Blaze reported.
“First, I got roped into taking a selfie with the blond female Danish prime minister,” the fake Mr. Obama said. “Some people said Michelle was angry at me for that. But I talked to her afterwards, and I can assure you, she was furious.”
The comedian than turned to Obamacare to detail “exciting” website updates — as a sign-language interpreter issued forth a series of incomprehensible hands signals to his left. Secret Service agents ultimately put an end to the interpreter’s bizarre display, manhandling him off the stage and making room for a fake German Chancellor Angela Merkel to appear.
“I have one favor to ask,” the actress playing Mrs. Merkel said. “The Danish prime minister has been bragging all over Northern Europe about her selfie with you, and I was hoping I could get one as well.”
The fake Obama’s reply: “I don’t think so.”
And the fake Mrs. Merkel’s follow-up: “Oh, really. I feel like you kind of owe me after the whole wiretapping my cellphone thing.”
Fox News said over the weekend the re-entry of “SNL” into the world of White House and presidential skits is long overdue — and most welcome.
