Sen. John McCain on Sunday admitted he went a little overboard with his comparison of President Obama’s handshake with Cuban President Raul Castro to former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s grasp of Adolf Hitler’s hand.
He said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that comparing the two was a “gross exaggeration.”
He said, as The Hill reported: “I think it was exaggeration but have no doubt that was a great propaganda value for the Cuban government, which is oppressive, repressive, continues to jail dissidents and continues to be one of, probably easily, the most repressive governments in our hemisphere.”
Mr. McCain also chided that Mr. Obama shouldn’t have taken the hands of “someone who continues to violate his own country’s human rights,” The Hill reported.
And at the continued pushing of CNN anchor Candy Crowley, he finally said, “I’m sure [my comparison] was an exaggeration.”
