The Rev. Isaac Hunter, the embattled megachurch pastor who recently resigned his position amid admissions of adultery and accusations of drug and alcohol abuse, has committed suicide, police said.
His body was discovered at his apartment in Altamonte Springs, Fla., The Blaze reported.
Mr. Hunter, 36, was the son of one of President Obama’s faith advisers, the Rev. Joel Hunter.
But he’s faced months of legal and marital troubles stemming from last year’s admission that he cheated on his wife. He subsequently resigned from the church he founded, while his wife accused him erratic behavior and drug and alcohol use. She filed a domestic violence charge against him, The Orlando Sentinel reported. Mr. Hunter, for his part, denied the claims.
Police on Tuesday said they checked Mr. Hunter’s apartment based on a call from a concerned family member. They said he died from “what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” The Blaze reported.
The senior Mr. Hunter issued a statement asking for prayers for the family.
Mr. Hunter left behind three children and his wife.
