A car bomb exploded by a gate at Kabul airport used mostly by NATO troops, said the Afghan Interior Ministry on Wednesday.
The Associated Press reported that nobody was killed in the explosion.
The airport has a side for civilians and a separate section for the military. Police Gen. Sayed Ghafar Sayedzada said the bomb was detonated on the military side, AP reported.
Members of the Taliban have already taken responsibility for the bombing, and a spokesman for the group said in an email that was distributed among the media that the attack was in response to foreign forces’ occupation of the country.
The suicide bombing stands out in that direct attacks on the airport at Kabul are few and far between. It’s been several months since the last. In June, seven Taliban attackers carting machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades attacked NATO’s headquarters at the airport — but then, all seven were killed.
