The mystery diner who has been leaving generous tips at restaurants around the nation with receipts signed “Tips for Jesus” hit hard at New York City in recent days.
He left a $7,000 tip for a server at NoMad in the Flatiron District; a $3,500 tip for another at The Smith by Lincoln Center; and a $1,000 for a waiter at Bo’s Kitchen in Chelsea, The New York Post reported.
The waiter at Bo’s, named Aruj Dhawan, said the tipper was former PayPal vice president Jack Selby — a man with a reputation for eccentricity and kind-hearted acts.
“A stranger comes in and drops a thousand dollars. … I was just really thankful,” said Mr. Dhuwan, The New York Post reported.
One of the receipts given to the wait staff had “Tips for Jesus” scrolled on the bottom. The other two receipts, The New York Post reported, had “God bless!” written, along with an ink stamping of “@tipsforjesus.” That moniker is the name of the Instagram account that shows pictures of wait staff holding their generous checks, with the tagline: “Doing the Lord’s work, one tip at a time.”
