The environmentalist group Greenpeace has given Santa a new look, putting out a video of a scary-looking Christmas figure who warns that his North Pole home is being threatened by climate change.
He urges parents and their kids to sign a petition, “Save Santa’s Home,” The Blaze reported.
In the video, the so-called Santa says: “Dear children, regrettably, I bring bad tidings. For some time now, melting ice here at the North Pole has made our operations and our day-to-day life intolerable and impossible and there may be no alternative but to cancel Christmas.”
The Santa is in a dark and dingy room, with a background visual of flickering lights and audio of dripping water. The Santa character says in the video he’s “written personally to President Obama, President Putin, all world leaders. Sadly, my letter have been met with indifference. Needless to say, these individuals are now at the top of my naughty list.”
He wraps the video with a dramatic appeal, The Blaze reported: “My home in the arctic is fast disappearing. And unless we all act urgently, then I have to warn you of the possibility of an empty stocking forevermore. Please help me.”
Greenpeace’s appeal has somewhat unfortunate timing, given the record-breaking minus 138.5 degrees Fahrenheit that was just reported in Antarctica.
