The 41st president of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush, has officially joined Twitter.
The 89-year-old Republican chose to use his first-ever tweet as an opportunity to honor former South African President Nelson Mandela, who passed away Thursday.
“Barbara and I wish we could have joined the U.S. delegation honoring President Mandela today. He, and his countrymen, are in our prayers,” he tweeted at 3:50 p.m. EST on Tuesday.
At the time of this report, he has already gained more than 6,700 followers. He is only following one Twitter account — the Bush Foundation.
