D.C. United on Tuesday acquired MLS veteran Davy Arnaud from the Montreal Impact in exchange for an international roster spot.

Arnaud, 33, was the Impact’s captain the last two seasons. The Nederland, Texas, native scored five goals and tallied eight assists in 57 games with Montreal in 2012-13.

He spent the first 10 seasons of his MLS career in Kansas City.

Arnaud was pleased with the move, tweeting Tuesday afternoon: “Extremely excited about the future with @dcunited. Already looking forward to getting preseason started!”

Arnaud has played in seven games for the U.S. national team. He scored against Haiti in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

“Davy is a versatile midfielder who has a wealth of MLS experience,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a news release. “He will add leadership on the field and in the locker room, and we look forward to having him as part of United.”
