Bon voyage, Love Boat.
The cruise ship showcased in the 1970s television series, “The Love Boat,” is headed to a ship-breaking yard in Turkey, Reuters reported. And while in 1977 and until 1986, it may have been called the Pacific Princess and dubbed the romance craft of the sea, its new name suggests a much more earthly mission: Call it cha-ching, in Turkish.
Turkey’s Izmir Ship Recycling Co, which bought the ship for $3.3 million, now plans to tear it down for metal scrap and parts and make a few bucks in the process, Ersin Ceviker of the Ship Recyclers’ Association of Turkey, Fox News reported.
“This ship has undergone several modifications over its lifespan,” Ceviker said, in the report. “It has been decommissioned for five years and renovation now would have been too costly.”
During the hour-long series, the show drew some of the biggest names in the celebrity world to guest star.
