At least 14 women and children were killed Thursday in eastern Afghanistan when a bomb detonated while they picnicked at the graveyard site of deceased relatives, authorities said.
The death count was seven women and seven children, NBC reported. Two other women and a child were injured and are considered in critical condition, a spokesman for Nangarhar province’s governor said.
The spokesman said it is normal for family members to visit and lunch at gravesides during the Eid religious holiday period.
The attack comes on the heels of a suicide bombing Wednesday that killed three Afghan bodyguards for the province police chief in Helman, NBC reported.
