Eliot Spitzer, the former governor of New York who resigned amid a scandal involving prostitutes, headed out to a Manhattan charter school on Tuesday to film his latest campaign ad for comptroller, filling the classroom and his film’s background with students as young as age 5.
The New York Post reported that his campaign filmed inside the Harlem Prep Charter School, located in East Harlem, and filled a classroom with children, ranging in age from 5 to 8, who don’t even attend the facility.
They weren’t paid for their participation, one campaign spokeswoman said in The New York Post. The children were selected after the campaign sent out an email request to Mr. Spitzer’s supporters.
The campaign is legally allowed to film in charter schools — but not traditional public schools.
Campaign officials refused to disclose the contents of the new ad, saying “we’re not going to preview our ads before they come out,” The Post reported.
Also Tuesday: Mr. Spitzer won the support of the 20,000-member Civil Service Employees Association, the largest public-sector union in New York.
