A huge fire at Nairobi’s Kenyatta International Airport shut the site to travel on Wednesday, sending ripples throughout the country’s economy and crippling its ability to continue key exports.
Economists predict the fire and port closure will have a dramatic impact on the nation’s tourism, CNN reported. The nation’s ability to export agricultural products — a key source of commerce between the country and Europe — is in jeopardy, too.
The fire has spread throughout the entire terminal – though no deaths were reported.
The port will remain closed for the foreseeable future, the Interior Ministry said on Twitter. All flights have been canceled or diverted to other airports, CNN reported.
Nairobi is the capital of Kenya, and Africa’s major hub for travel.
