Sporting bright pink pants, Joe Scarborough of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” took a seat Tuesday on the coach next to the four hosts of “The View,” along with his co-host Mika Brzezinski, and promptly fielded questions about his accused “gay” look.

Barbara Walters spoke first, telling Ms. Brzezinski, “You look great,” Newsbusters reported. She then looked Mr. Scarborough’s way and said, “But you? The pink pants? You are a number.”

Joy Behar put it differently. As Mr. Scarborough walked to the stage, and she reached to hug him, she could be heard on tape saying: “You look gay.” Audio captured Mr. Scarborough replying, “Do I look gay?”

Once seated, he recounted the exchange in detail for the studio audience.

“I was walking in here, I’m on Upper West Side, and I’m thinking, ’This is a very, you know, you’re very enlightened, you’re very progressive.’ I go past, and I’m kissing everybody, because that’s what you do, the sisterhood.” He then glanced at Miss Behar, and said: “And she goes, ’You sure look gay in those pants.”

Miss Behar confirmed the comments, but then added, “I happen to like a gay look.”

Mr. Scarborough’s comeback? “Maybe I do, too,” he said.
