New York City’s Anthony Weiner called his mayoral rival “grandpa” during a heated campaign confrontation — that took place at an AARP forum, no less.

Republican candidate George McDonald, 69, has been on the campaign trail issuing scathing words of criticism against the sexting scandal-ridden Mr. Weiner, often peppering outright criticisms with mocking barbs. Tensions came to a high on Tuesday at the Manhattan event, hosted by the nation’s most notable lobby group for the retiree-age crowd. Mr. Weiner started it off with a slight touch to Mr. McDonald’s chest, The Associated Press reported.

Mr. McDonald fired off: “Don’t put your hands on me ever again.”

Mr. Weiner, who is 48 years old, accused Mr. McDonald of having “anger issues,” and when Mr. McDonald disagreed, followed that with this assertion: “Yes, you do, Grandpa.”

The entire exchange was captured on camera and broadcast on cable news NY1.

Still, Mr. McDonald was no crowd favorite at the event. He was booed after he called Mr. Weiner a “glib narcissist,” AP reported. Neither candidate is doing well in the polls.
