The father of the Chechen man who was killed by an FBI agent during questioning about his relationship with Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev said he is suing the agency.
He just wants the truth of why his son was killed, he said, Time reported.
Ibragim Todashev, 27, was shot and killed by an FBI agent who visited his Florida home in May. The agents were questioning his friendship with the killed Boston bombing suspect.
FBI agents claimed the man lunged at them with a knife and they were forced to shoot in self defense. But other agents gave different accounts and claimed Todashev lunged with a broomstick and a metal pole. Still others said Todashev was unarmed.
The FBI has launched an internal investigation. But Todashev’s father, Abdulbaki Todashev, says he tired of the conflicting reports and is suing.
A spokesman for the American Civil Liberties Union said the FBI “has offered completely incompatible explanations, they have failed to explain how these inconsistent stories found their way into newspaper accounts of the shootings, and have not offered any clarifying comment about what really happened.”
Todashev’s father, meanwhile, said his son couldn’t have posed a threat to the agents because “he had just had surgery on his knee and was still walking with crutches,” Newser reported.
