U.S. Department of Defense heads say civilian employees will get a bit of reprieve from mandated furloughs, as the number of required days to take off has been cut from 11 to six.
The Pentagon found enough savings in the last month to reduce the furlough requirement, the Associated Press reported. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel approved the reduced furlough mandate this week.
Civilian employees of the Defense Department have been taking furlough days — one day off each week — since the early part of July.
The furlough rule has affected at 650,000 civilians.
