A computer problem forced several airlines to ground and reschedule hundreds of flights overnight, and technology experts said on Tuesday that that glitch has been traced to the company that provides numerous flight companies their online booking and reservation services.

Fox News reported that Sabre is an Alaskan company that provides technology services to many airlines — from booking to check-ins — but had suffered a temporary breakdown. The service disruption didn’t impact flights already in the air. But hundreds that were set to take off late Monday and early Tuesday were on hold.

Alaska Airlines alone reported at least 50 of its flights were delayed by a hour or so.

Nancy Castles, a spokeswoman at Los Angeles International Airport, said 17 flights there had been delayed by 45 minutes, Fox News reported. Other airlines impacted: American, Jet Blue, Frontier, Virgin America, Qantas and British Airways.
