DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Tigers superstar Miguel Cabrera has left another game with an injury.
Cabrera appeared to land awkwardly on his right knee when he was trying to reach second base on a hit in the fifth inning Thursday afternoon against the Oakland Athletics.
The reigning Triple Crown winner talked briefly to the team’s athletic trainer and manager Jim Leyland as he limped off the field and was replaced by Don Kelly.
Cabrera has been hobbled this month with a strain in his groin, abdominal and hip area. He previously was playing with a banged-up left leg.
He had two hits before Thursday, increasing his major league leading batting average to .359, but did not add to his baseball-best 130 RBIs or 43 homers that trail only Baltimore’s Chris Davis.
