Staffers at two bars in Ogden, Utah, say a wealthy resident has been passing along his good fortune with a string of feel-good, high-dollar tips that — in at least one instance — brought a beer server to grateful tears.
The drinker reportedly handed out a tip of $5,000 and another of $1,000 during two separate bar trips. And it’s not as if his tab were that high: He left $1,000 tip for a $49 check at one bar, the Daily Mail reported.
As one restaurant owner said: “We’ve had some tips go over $100, but that’s always been for a big party, where they’re paying for the whole tab and the tip works out to like 20 percent,” the Daily Mail reported.
Meanwhile, another newspaper reported that the man — a wealthy businessman – has done this type of good dead on previous occasions. He reportedly recently gave a girl who served him beer from her cart at a golf course a $1,000 tip that brought her to tears.
The man was not identified in the report.
