Police on Monday arrested the second of two suspects accused of beating to death a World War II veteran, 88, as he walked across the parking lot toward his Spokane, Wash., Eagle Lodge to play pool.
Kenan Adams-Kinard, 16, was arrested on first-degree robbery and first degree murder for the beating death of Delbert Belton, the Daily Mail reported.
The victim was struck repeatedly with a flashlight and left for dead in the parking lot last Wednesday, the Daily Mail said.
The other suspect, Demetrius Glenn, also 16, was arrested on Thursday, a day after the attack that’s been described as a senseless and random act of violence.
Police said several who were found with Kenan were arrested for helping him hide and providing other assistance in the last few days, the Daily Mail reported.
He was discovered in a basement apartment in Spokane and taken into custody about 3 a.m., without incident, police said.
Prior to his arrest, his own family had appealed for him to turn himself in.
“We don’t want this prolonged,” his father said, the Daily Mail reported. “We really need to get this over with and get through with this and find out what’s really the situation, of really, what happened in this tragedy.”
Both suspects are black; Mr. Belton was white. Several talking heads have commented in the days since the tragedy about the seeming reluctance of notable activists and politicos in the black community — who raged about racism in the Trayvon Martin shooting — to come forward and condemn the attack in similarly heated tones.
