OPINION:
The Washington Times’ excellent editorial on the plight of Coptic Christians in Egypt describes the systematic effort of the Muslim Brotherhood to make that nation free of non-Islamic religions — Christianity and Judaism (“Bearing the cross,” Aug. 22).
The same is happening in Syria. The difference is that radical Islamists have already succeed in eliminating Jews in Syria, with only about 200 left there. With about 100 Jews remaining in Egypt, Syria is a portent of events to come if the Muslim Brotherhood obtains the upper hand in both of these two nations.
Throughout the Arab world, and in particular the Middle East, with the exception of Israel, the Christian population has been decreasing. From Iraq to the Palestinian territories, where the former Christian majority in Bethlehem is now a distinct minority, there has been an exodus of Christians from the region under threats by Muslim radicals. Unfortunately for those concerned, the Christian population in the Arab world will continue to decrease as intolerance reigns in that region.
