New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman sued Donald Trump for $40 million on Saturday, claiming Mr. Trump helped run a bogus “Trump University” scheme that promised to help make students millions through expensive seminars.
The real estate mogul said suit by Mr. Schneiderman, a Democrat, is false and politically motivated, The Associated Press reported.
In the claim, Mr. Schneiderman says many of the 5,000 students who paid up to $35,000 thought they would at least be able to shake Mr. Trump’s hand but instead all they got was their picture taken in front of a life-size photo, the AP said.
Mr. Trump’s attorney accused Mr. Schneiderman of trying to extort campaign contributions through his investigation, telling the AP on Saturday that the lawsuit was filled with falsehoods.
He said Trump University provided nearly 11,000 testimonials from students praising the program and said 98 percent of students in a survey termed the program “excellent,” the AP reported.
