The Rev. Jesse Jackson “frowned upon” the random shooting death of an Australian man attending an Oklahoma college on scholarship earlier this week via a Facebook post. That perceived cavalier reaction has been taken further with another faux pas — misspelling the name of the victim in subsequent Facebook and Twitter postings that have been since deleted.
Twitchy, however, captured the postings before they were deleted.
Mr. Jackson posted on his Twitter feed Thursday: “The recent incidents of violence in America calls each of us to collectively resist all forms of violence in our society #ChrisLee.”
And from his Facebook page, Mr. Jackson wrote this, also on Thursday: “The recent incidents of violence in America most notably the murder of Christopher Lee an aspiring student athlete from Australia in Oklahoma and the attack of a student on a school bus in Florida once again calls each of us to collectively resist all forms of violence in our society.”
The victim in the Oklahoma attack, however, was Christopher Lane, 22.
Social media posters were not amused. One wrote on Twitchy: “The 22 year old Australian Athletic MURDERED by 3 Black Thugs name is CHRISTOPER LANE Not #ChrisLee @RevJJackson. Get it Right.”

Moreover, Mr. Jackson’s error comes on the heels of another tweet that received a bit of social media outrage for its understated tone: He tweeted the killing of Mr. Lane by the three suspects who said they were “bored” was “frowned upon.”
Police have arrested 15-year-old James Edwards, Michael Dewayne Jones, 17, and Chancey Allen Luna, 16. Allegedly, one of the three suspects told police they shot the Oklahoma man as he jogged in the streets because they had nothing better to do – they were “bored,” police said, to various media.
