Police say the suspect who was arrested for the shooting at an Atlanta-area school on Tuesday told them he was off his medications.
Investigator T.L. Wortham with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Fugitive Unit said to WSB-TV that the 20-year-old suspect, Michael Brandon Hill, said during his arrest: “I’m sorry, I’m off my meds.”
The Associated Press reported that the bookkeeper for the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur, Ga., where the shooting took place, said the suspect told her similarly. While making a Wednesday appearance on “Good Morning America,” the staffer, Antoinette Tuff, described how she was able to calm Mr. Hill and persuade him to surrender, and she said he told her he hadn’t taken his medication.
No one was injured in the shooting, but police still don’t know the shooter’s motive. Media reports didn’t specify what medication Mr. Hill supposedly is prescribed.
Mr. Hill faces various charges, including making terroristic threats and assaulting a police officer.
