There’s a new face at the White House — a new addition to the presidential family. The Obamas welcomed Sunny, their new Portuguese water dog, late Monday evening.

First lady Michelle Obama sent out an excited tweet: “So excited to introduce the newest member of the Obama family — our puppy, Sunny!”

The dog’s about a year old, USA Today reported. It’s the same breed as the Obamas’ other dog, Bo — but a girl, not a boy. Bo was a gift from now-deceased Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat.

The White House blog suggested that the second puppy is aimed at helping Bo get more involved with other dogs.

“We suspect Sunny will follow in Bo’s footsteps and keep the president company in the Oval Office, go for walks with the first family after their 6:30 family dinner and even jump up on the first lady’s lap from time to time,” the blog stated.

Sunny reportedly was born in Michigan last year.
