LONG POND, PA. (AP) - It was the flip seen `round Oshweken.
Tony Stewart’s World of Outlaws race this past at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario ended after a scary accident where his car flipped end-over-end about five times.
Stewart walked away from the crash and was not injured.
He’s also not slowing down from a loaded race schedule that has him at a different track several nights of the week.
“You mortals have got to learn, you guys need to watch more sprint car videos and stuff,” he said Friday at Pocono. “It was not a big deal. It’s starting to get annoying this week about that. That was just an average sprint car wreck. When they wreck, they get upside down like that.”
But the three-time NASCAR champion will sit out a pair of races this weekend as his team takes its cars to Indiana for repairs.
Stewart finished fourth Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and said he’d be in a race car every day this week. Although he declined to reveal his entire schedule, he said he was testing Wednesday, racing Thursday and would be at Pocono Raceway this weekend.
Stewart suddenly has some free time on his hands.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do for a whole weekend off now,” Stewart said. “It’s going to be a lazy schedule now.”
He added the Stewart-Haas Racing team is still looking for a crew chief for Kevin Harvick. Harvick joins SHR in 2014.
“We have an idea of what we need,” Stewart said. “It’s just a matter of going out and getting them now.”
