For the second time in less than a week, a shark attacked a swimmer off the coast of Hawaii, this time biting the legs of a 16-year-old surfer on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawaii County Fire Department said the teen was airlifted to Hilo Medical Center with wounds on both legs. His condition on Monday was unknown, the Associated Press reported.
The beach along the Pohoiki coastline was closed after the attack.
Lifeguards had spotted a shark in a different area of the coastline that same day and had ordered swimmers off Hapuna Beach, on the northwestern shore.
This the second attack in just a few days. On Wednesday, a shark bit off the arm of a German tourist, 20, who was snorkeling in Maui.
