A Broadway performance of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” turned disastrous on Thursday night as the superhero fell through a trap door on the stage during the performance, and emergency responders rushed to cut him from the floorboards and transport him to the hospital.
Audience members said they heard screams just past 9 p.m., and the show came to a halt.
“The floor looked completely closed on his leg,” said one audience member from Plainview, N.Y., in The New York Times. “A stretcher was brought out. They were using a saw to cut a hole in the floor. All we cared about was whether the actor was and would be OK.”
The condition of the actor, Daniel Curry, was rated by hospital officials as serious, the Daily Mail reported.
The Broadway show is a $65 million production filled with special effects. Mr. Curry is the fourth reported actor to be injured during performances in the past few weeks.
