A British stuntman best known for his recent parachuting into the opening ceremony for the London Olympics as a James Bond double was killed while flying a special wing suit in the Swiss Alps, authorities said on Thursday.

Extreme sports online broadcasting station Epic TV reported that Mark Sutton died during the filming of 20 wing suit pilots as they jumped from helicopters. Swiss police confirmed Mr. Sutton died during the event, which took place on Wednesday near Trient, The Associated Press reported. Authorities also said Thursday he jumped at 10,800 feet and died after crashing into a mountain ridge.

Mr. Sutton was 42 years old.

He is perhaps best remembered as playing a James Bond double and skydiving into the London Olympics in 2012 with another stuntman dressed as Queen Elizabeth II.
