A Utah beauty pageant winner who faced criminal charges for throwing homemade bottle bombs outside her car window as she drove around town with friends turned in her crown on Tuesday.
Kendra McKenzie Gill, 18, said she relinquished her crown because she knew pageant officials were about to strip her of it anyway, The Associated Press reported.
“I just thought it would be best for the city of Riverton and all the people affected by our decision and my choice, to just step down and resign from my position and let someone else take it from here,” she said, in a KSL-TV interview.
Ms. Gill called her part in the incident a “stupid mistake,” AP reported.
She’s been charged — along with the three friends she rode with — with felony counts of possession of an explosive device. The homemade bombs were plastic bottles filled with toilet bowl cleaner and shrapnel. The four were charged with tossing them at people and at property.
