Massachusetts’ prosecutors are huddling with federal authorities to determine if James “Whitey” Bulger, the Boston mobster just found guilty in federal court of counts tied to 11 killings, might now be charged and tried on state counts.
The Associated Press reported that a spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said his office “is always looking for evidence that can help us investigate and prosecute Suffolk County homicides.” Bulger has never faced murder charges in the Massachusetts state court system.
State prosecutors are also considering charges against Bulger’s associates, The Boston Globe reported. One suspect is believed to have committed several killings and disposed of several bodies, but has never been charged, AP said.
And the list of those wishing to jump on the prosecutorial bandwagon against Bulger is only growing. AP reported that authorities in Florida and in Oklahoma are considering charges against the Irish mob head, too.
