Former Florida Rep. Allen West said Wednesday that Congress needs to appoint a special committee to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012, fatal attacks on America’s consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
“We’ve got a lot of questions,” he said, on Fox News. “This is why I believe we have to have that select committee to get to the bottom of these incidents. Right now, we have had this investigation across five different committees in the House of Representatives. We have not gotten anywhere.”
Mr. West suggested a committee with subpoena powers – similar to what’s been proposed by Virginia Rep. Frank Wolf for months.
“If we have one focused committee with subpoena powers that can get the survivors from Benghazi, get some of these CIA agents and operatives. And I think you need to depose Hillary Clinton and bring her back and talk about why Ambassador Chris Stevens was in Benghazi on the 11th anniversary of September 11,” he said, Newsmax reported.
His recommendation comes on the heels of a report from an attorney who’s representing a whistleblower who said 400 hundred U.S.-made surface-to-air missiles were mysteriously “taken from Libya” during the consulate attack. Mr. West questioned the incidents surrounding these missiles.
“Where did these surface-to-air missiles come from? Were they part of [former dictator Moammar] Gadhafi’s stash? Or somehow were we trying to funnel weapons through Libya to Turkey, into Syria?” he said.

Mr. West also said: “The president needs to tell us why his direct representative in a foreign country was in Benghazi. Hillary Clinton needs to come clean about why was the ambassador there.”
