Police on Monday were still trying to sort through the chaos of a 41−vehicle pileup on a heavily traveled Virginia roadway that sent 10 to the hospital.
The Department of Transportation said the wreck occurred about 5 p.m. on Sunday near Lexington on Interstate 81. Six tractor-trailers were involved in the crash, and southbound lanes were closed to travelers for more than six hours, The Associated Press reported.
Backups were reported five miles away.
Rockbridge County Emergency Management coordinator Robert Foresman said two tractor-trailers as well as a camper had overturned, but the cause was still under investigation.
The condition of the injured was not known.
