Quit meddling.

That’s the message a news outlet normally loyal to British Prince Charles sent his way after tallying up the times the crown-holder has entered into private meetings with Cabinet officials in the past three years: 36.

The Daily Mail suggested he should stop this “campaign of meddling,” given his position is supposed to be largely symbolic – and not political.

The prince has held seven closed-door sessions with Prime Minister David Cameron alone, the Daily Mail reported.

That taints the fact that he’s supposed to remain neutral on all matters politic, the paper said. Moreover, he’s made much too public a fanfare over his views on education, architecture, religion and the environment lately, the Daily Mail charged. And the 64-year-old heir to the throne should quit the “campaign of meddling” immediately, it said.

In response, the prince’s Clarence House office said Mr. Charles had a responsibility “to bring his unique perspective” to Cabinet heads, the Associated Press reported.
