A hot air balloon pilot was killed while flying at a festival on Sunday in Canada, police said.

Maxime Trepanier, 26, a second-generation hot air balloon pilot, was killed when his balloon crashed, United Press International reported. Mr. Trepanier was the father of two. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition after the crash but died.

“It’s a tragic day,” said Marie-Claude Beauvais, the head of marketing for the hot air balloon festival in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, UPI reported.

The festival, in its 30th year, was halted after the accident, Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Police are investigating the reasons for the crash.
