Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, a candidate in the New York City mayoral race, says in his just-released campaign ad that it’s “powerful” sources who are purposely trying to keep him from the limelight who are stymieing his political comeback — not his sexting scandals.

The Monday television commercial depicts Mr. Weiner speaking directly into the camera lens, claiming he’s “waged a campaign focused like a laser beam on fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it,” CNN reported.

But he’s being thwarted by behind−the-scenes forces.

“Powerful voices have made it very clear from the beginning they didn’t want me to win,” he said. “But this isn’t about what they want. They’ve gotten their way for far too long. If you give me the chance, I’ll fight for you and your family every single day.”

The commercial closes with the door-chime of a New York City subway.
