San Diego Democratic Mayor Bob Filner, who faces sexual harassment charges from eight women, is now banned by a new provision from meeting with any female behind closed doors or in private — and one MSNBC host questioned whether that’s discrimination.
Melissa Harris-Perry, a Rachel Maddow fill-in, asked Mr. Filner’s chief of staff about the new policy during a Wednesday broadcast: Does that prohibition constitute discrimination?
Chief of Staff Lee Burdick said the rule was to protect “both the mayor and the citizens of San Diego,” and to make sure business transactions were “being done with the highest level of integrity,” Breitbart reported.
Ms. Burdick also said she partnered with the mayor to formulate the new policy, as a “reasonable and prudent business practice in light of the allegations being leveled against him.”
Eight women allege the mayor has sexually harassed them. Both the mayor and the city of San Diego are being sued.
