Sen. Rand Paul said he was ready to “kiss and make up” with Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday, but the New Jersey Republican said he’s not having it.
“I’m running for reelection in New Jersey. I don’t really have time for that at the moment,” Mr. Christie said Wednesday night in a radio interview, The Star Ledger reported. “If I find myself in Washington, I’ll certainly look him up, but I don’t suspect I’ll be there anytime soon.”
Mr. Paul said that things with the governor have gotten “a little too personal.” He then invited Mr. Christie to sit down for a beer and a chat sometime at a pub down the corner from the Senate.
“I don’t know why Senator Paul is so out of whack about this,” Mr. Christie responded. “At the end of the day I never called him any names, yet he called me names. I didn’t use any childish type phrases like gimme, gimme, gimme, he did. I just have to assume from that that he’s just trying to get attention. That’s fine. He’s not the first politician who’s used me to try to get attention in the national media and I’m sure he won’t be the last.”
Mr. Paul had responded to return fire from Mr. Christie Tuesday by labeling him the “king of bacon” for the governor’s use of federal funding.
Earlier that day, Mr. Christie had derided the Kentucky senator for criticizing him over accepting Hurricane Sandy relief money, pointing out the “pork-barrel spending” in Kentucky.
