Japan is taking seriously threats from North Korea, and on Tuesday deployed missile-defense shields at three of its Tokyo sites.
The move came a day after Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said any deployment of the nation’s missile-defense system would remain secret, CNN reported.
“It would show our strategy to North Korea,” he said.
Japan’s has Patriot missile batteries in Ichigaya – a district located in the center of Tokyo – and in the suburban areas of Asaka and Narashino, Mr. Suga confirmed on Tuesday to CNN.
The deployments come on the heels of escalating tensions between North Korea and the West, and as the United States warned that Pyongyang could be prepping for action.
