Westboro Baptist Church members announced Monday their newest target: movie critic Roger Ebert’s funeral.
The group slammed Mr. Ebert, who died last week at age 70 following a lengthy battle with cancer, and called him a “fool” who “sold his soul for some fame and fortune,” Newser reported. In a press release, the group also referred to Mr. Ebert as a “f-g enabler” who is headed for “eternal torment and sorrow in Hell,” the Hollywood Reporter said.
Why so harsh?
Mr. Ebert “mocked” the Westboro group, Newser reported members as saying. For instance, in 2011 Mr. Ebert sent out a tweet in which he called the group “odious,” Newser said.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Mr. Ebert’s funeral is set to start at 10 a.m. CDT at Holy Name Cathedral, and a large crowd is expected. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, the Tribune reported, but details have not yet been released.
