Nationally known media personality Glenn Beck said the police response to the Boston Marathon bombing attacks reminded of Nazi Germany, with door-to-door searches to root out Jews during the Holocaust.
“You can live in your little dream world,” he said on his radio show on Monday. But when the police locked down Watertown, closed off Boston’s public transportation system and searched the city with weapons drawn for the suspects in the April 15 terror attacks, it was as scary as Nazis on the hunt for Jewish people.”
Of special fright was the photo of a tank in the city with its gun seemingly pointed at a resident who’s taking the picture from a second-floor Watertown home window, he said, Mediaite reported. It reminded of his trip to Auschwitz, when he reflected on how people’s neighbors “were just dragged out into the streets,” Mr. Beck said.
“When [Nazis said] stay in the house, they mean stay in your house,” he said. “When they say don’t look out the window, don’t approach a window, don’t look at what’s going on, you don’t or they’ll kill you.”
And Mr. Beck had this warning for America: Nazi Germany’s police state could come to America. “You can live in your little dream world. Everything that has happened so far, we have told you would happen, and everybody said it wouldn’t happen.”
Mr. Beck’s statements follow similar criticisms issued by former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who said earlier this week that the police response in Boston was almost scarier than the terror attack itself.
“The Boston bombing provided the opportunity for the government to turn what should have been a police investigation into a military-style occupation of an American city. This unprecedented move should frighten us as much or more than the attack itself,” he wrote in a published opinion, as Politico reported.
