A 10-year-old boy in California was suspended for carrying along his Swiss Army knife — a tool that’s designed for camping and outdoor use — on a school camping trip.
The boy, Braden, was then threatened with expulsion, his father, Tony Bandermann, said on Fox News. The camping trip was for science class at Garden Gate Elementary in Cupertino, The Blaze reported. The boy showed the knife to other students, who then told the teacher — who then notified police.
The father fielded the phone call from the school principal.
“She threatened to expel him,” he said, The Blaze reported. “She kept telling me, ’You can’t bring a weapon to school.’ A Swiss Army knife is a tool, not a weapon.”
The father was on a business-related trip and unable to pick up his son from camp right away. So the school put him in isolation at camp — in a teacher’s lounge, away from all the other students, the father said, The Blaze reported.
“It was horrible in every way,” Mr. Bandermann said, The Blaze reported. “The punishment was ridiculous.”
