TAMPA, FLA. (AP) - Police say New York Yankees outfield prospect Mason Williams has been charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop in Florida.
Tampa police say the 21-year-old was driving a 2012 Range Rover in an erratic manner early Thursday and was clocked at about 53 mph in a 40 mph speed zone.
A police report says Williams appeared impaired when he performed field sobriety exercises. A breathalyzer test showed Williams at a blood alcohol content of 0.06 percent, which is below Florida’s 0.08 standard for drunkenness. Still, he was charged with misdemeanor DUI and released on $500 bail.
Court records did not show an attorney for Williams.
Selected by the Yankees in the fourth round of the 2010 draft, Williams is hitting .271 this season for Class A Tampa. The Yankees said they had no comment on his arrest.
