A world-renowned Sunni cleric boycotted an interfaith conference in Qatar on Tuesday to avoid sitting next to Jewish participants.
Yousuf al-Qaradawi, the cleric, refused to attend the International Union of Muslim Scholars, The Jerusalem Post reported.
“I decided not to participate so I would not sit with Jews on the same platform as long as they are raping Palestine and destroying mosques, and as long as the Palestinian issue has not been resolved,” he said in The Post. Mr. Qaradawi, known around the world as a Sunni spokesman, also serves as chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.
His boycott was Allah’s will, he said.
It’s Allah’s will “not to argue with the People of the Book [Jews and Christians],” he said, as The Post reported. “There is nothing more unjust than what the Jews have done to our people in Palestine.”
