Samsung is spending big research and development dollars on discovering ways to dial by thought — to control cellular phones by brain only.
MIT Technology Review reported that the company’s Emerging Technology Lab has joined forces with Roozbeh Jafari, the assistant professor of electrical engineering at the University of Texas, to start looking at the feasibility of the technology.
What they’re doing so far is putting a cap “studded with EEG-monitoring electrodes” on top of the head of a test subject, who then focuses on an icon that’s blinking on a screen at a particular rate, TG Daily reported. The findings so far: Those who focus hard enough are able to launch and interact with the software, TG Daily said.
Samsung admits the technology is still far from allowing cellphone users to control their devices by thought. But then again, Samsung said: It was only 15 years ago that only crazy people believed in voice, touch, gesture and eye technology that allowed for control of mobile devices, TG Daily said.
