Iran promised on Tuesday to be a “reliable partner” to the West if the United States would adopt a more cooperative tone in nuclear development talks.
Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations nuclear watchdog agency, said sanctions aren’t working.
“Hostile polices of Western countries, including dual track, carrot and stick, sanctions-and-talks polices are doomed to failure,” he said in The Jerusalem Post.
“Western countries are advised to change gear from confrontation to cooperation, the window of opportunity to enter into negotiation for long-term strategic cooperation with Iran, the most reliable, strong and stable partner in the region, is still open,” he said during a meeting in Geneva on the Non-Proliferation Treaty, The Jerusalem Post reported.
U.S. delegates at the meeting didn’t respond to the comments, The Jerusalem Post reported, but one delegate did reiterate that Iran’s nuclear program is one of the greatest threats to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
