Television producer Mark Burnett said his successful three-hour History production of “The Bible” is heading to the big screen.
The film, in the works now, will include “recut scenes and extra stuff” from the television mini-series, and could hit the theaters as early as this fall, The New York Post reported.
“Clearly the big focus is the Resurrection,” Mr. Burnett said, in The Post. “Very few people have ever done anything beyond the crucifixion. No one has ever seen the Pentecost before. And the Ascension. And the following trial of Peter and John.”
Mr. Burnett’s co-producer is wife Roma Downey — who once starred in the hit television series, “Touched by an Angel.”
They have yet to score a studio, but would release the film independently, if need be, The Post reported.
“We’ve had many, many offers from theaters globally,” Mr. Burnett said, The Post reported. “Someone came to us [offering to show it in] 24 arenas.”
The television series, “The Bible,” had more than 100 million viewers from around the world.
“For all those people who rolled their eyes three years ago and said, ’nobody is going to watch the Bible on TV,’ we are glad they are wrong,” said Mr. Burnett, in The Post.
