Former Rep. Anthony D. Weiner sent out a peculiar tweet at noon Monday — a link to his new account — in perhaps a way to distance himself from past transgressions with his old username.

The new account, @anthonyweiner, already has garnered more than 1,500 followers. So far, Mr. Weiner has tweeted only once from the new account, directing followers to a digital brochure of his plans for New York City.

The plan, titled “Keys to the City: 64 Ideas to Keep New York the Capital of the Middle Class” and authored by Mr. Weiner himself, is further proof the former lawmaker is gearing up for a mayoral bid.

Mr. Weiner resigned from Congress in the summer of 2011 after a scandal in which he accidentally sent lewd photos of himself publicly via Twitter to a young woman who was not his wife.
